Discovery Dome: "From Earth to the Universe"

Voyage through time and space to learn how scientific advancements have propelled our understanding of the universe with "From Earth to the Universe" on Friday, Dec. 27! This stunning exploration of the cosmos will take you out of this world to witness the wonder of our Solar System and further yet, beyond the reach of the Milky Way.
The Dome experience is fully immersive, and viewers are presented with videos and images from a 360-degree projector in front, behind, above and on both sides of their seat. Everyone is able to partake in the Discovery Dome experience as the dome has a full-size stand-up door which guests can walk through; no crawling or shoe removal is necessary. The door is also wheelchair accessible.

Are you ready to take a trip to the moon? Join us on Saturday, Jan. 4 for "Back to the Moon for Good" in the Discovery Dome!
"Back to the Moon for Good" highlights the history of exploring the moon tracing back to the 1960s and 1970s. Hear from some of the teams racing to land a robotic spacecraft on the moon while you are taken on a successful launch, landing and tour of the lunar surface!
Narrated by Tim Allen, the stunning visuals and compelling narrative of the show explain the importance of today's space innovators as the next generation "shoots for the moon."

Discovery Dome: "Losing the Dark" & "Night Sky"

Join us on Monday, Dec. 23, in the Discovery Dome for "Losing the Dark," a short planetarium video on light pollution, and a live "Night Sky" presentation!
Following the seven-minute planetarium show, "Losing the Dark," an Education Specialist will use a live interactive program to show the audience what the sky would look like without light pollution. Pointing out constellations and some of the history and mythology on how they got their names.
The Dome experience is fully immersive, and viewers are presented with videos and images from a 360-degree projector in front, behind, above and on both sides of their seat. Rube Goldberg Family Day: “Ring in the New Year” Challenge!

Ring in the New Year — literally — by building your own Rube Goldberg-inspired contraption with a fun, competitive family event! Winner takes home a basic family membership to the Putnam to help start their year off right!
Register your family today to face off against others in a test of creativity and invention on Saturday, Dec. 28, during
Rube Goldberg Family Day: “Ring in the New Year” Challenge!
Teams of up to 8 people will use their imagination and persistence in a set amount of time to create an original, functional Rube Goldberg machine that can successfully ring a bell using only supplies provided by the judges!
When teams aren't building their contraption, they're welcome to take part in Rube Goldberg-inspired activities, like the domino chain reaction table and catapult building table in the Grand Lobby.
Competitors are also encouraged to check out the Rube Goldberg exhibit — closing Jan. 5. The exhibit is FREE for Members, and nonmember competitors can see it with museum admission for just $5!
