Summer Camps 2017

Spend the summer discovering, inventing and engaging in amazing experiences at the Putnam Museum! Our summer camp programs are available for youth entering grades K – 8. Before and after care is available from 8 AM to 4 PM (full day weekly camps only). Additional costs apply, pre-registration is required. Contact Brittany Glass at Scholarship opportunities are also available.

Harry Potter, Grades 3 - 5 - SOLD OUT!
JUNE 12 - 16, 9 AM - 3 PM
Spells & Potions Fee: $10
Hop a train to the Midwest’s premiere wizarding prep school. Complete your wizard apprenticeship by completing Quidditch training and attending classes about Potions, charms and more, all while you discover the science secrets behind the magic!
Code-gramming, Grades 3 - 5 - SOLD OUT!
JUNE 19 - 23, 9 AM - 3 PM
Materials Fee: $5
Join us on a wild coding adventure. Create your very own out of this world creature, be a heroine protecting your city from disaster, or create your very own masterpiece. The possibilities are endless with Scratch and Turtle Art. Meet Dash & Dot® and program them to play their very own concert or create mischief in the museum. Let your imagination run wild while learning the basics of coding and programming!

Skills of Survival, Grades 4 - 6 - REGISTER!
JUNE 26 - 30, 9 AM - 3 PM
Who will make it to the end? Enter a survival training camp at the Putnam! Build survival skills by learning about beneficial and harmful plants, water filtering, wayfinding with compasses, and more! Trek across the Putnam and Fejervary Park learning the skills necessary to survive in the wilderness.

Culinary Camp, Grades 1-3 - SOLD OUT!
July 10 - 14, 9 AM - 3 PM
Chef's Fees: $5

During this delightful and delicious Culinary Camp you will learn the many steps from garden to table! We will be tending the Putnam raised garden, which will provide the edible tools we will use to create culinary science!  Garden Plot Crackers to hand ground wheat for homemade bread. This camp will provide a scientific feast beyond your belief!!

Don't Try This at Home!, Grades 5-8 - SOLD OUT!
July 31 - August 4, 9 AM - 3 PM
Lab Fee: $10
Explosions, experiments and excitement! Come to this camp for science that leaves a mark – we’ll try all those things you could never do at home and end our week with a BANG!


Fee: $85 (members $76.50),
$160 for 2 camps (members $150)

Magic Treehouse Explorers, Grades K-2 - SOLD OUT!
July 17 - 21, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Like Jack and Annie, young campers enter the Magic Tree House® for exciting adventures to an observatory, a space station and the Moon. Daily story time will be an
important part of this Magic Tree House® journey!

American Girl® Camp, Grades K-2 - REGISTER!
July 17 - 21, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Along with their American Girl® Doll, campers will travel back in time to explore life's experiences with Molly, Samantha, Felicity and many more! What can you learn from these young ladies? Let's explore together & find out!

I Want My Mummy!, Grades K - 2* - REGISTER!
JULY 6, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Egypt, Pyramids and Mummies! These are some of the wonders of Ancient Egypt that the students will travel back in time to explore. Join us as we discover the history hidden in this small country located in the vast Sahara Desert!

Wrapped up in Egypt, Grades 3 - 5 - REGISTER!
JULY 7, 9 AM - 3 PM
Curious about mummies and pyramids?  Discover the secrets of  ancient Egypt while you build a pyramid, mummify a living organism, and become a scribe as you write your name in hieroglyphs.  A visit to the Putnam’s Unearthing Ancient Egypt are included to help campers solve the mysteries of ancient Egypt.

Back by popular demand – Don’t miss this opportunity to create and learn side by side Iowa State college students and Professional Engineers. Explore robotics, test your engineering problem-solving and even take in a giant screen film. Lunch and t-shirt included in this special camp!
