Through a partnership with the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities, the exhibit
"Anne Frank: A History for Today" will be at the Putnam, as part of over 2 months of programming throughout the Quad Cities promoting the lessons learned from Anne Frank and the Holocaust. This exhibit is the centerpiece of a community-wide project.
The story of Anne Frank and her family is juxtaposed against world events before, during and after the rise to power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. The exhibit includes photographs of the Frank family and other occupants of the Secret Annex and shows how people were persecuted by political decisions and by the actions of individuals. Implicit in the exhibit are the themes of scapegoating, bullying, anti-Semitism, racism, ethnic cleansing and genocide.
As part of the project, the Jewish Federation will host a visit by Holocaust survivor, Eva Geiringer Schloss. Before the war, the Geiringers – Erich and Fritzi and their children Heinz and Eva - lived in the same apartment building as Anne Frank and her family.
The public libraries throughout the Quad Cities will be sponsoring Anne Frank-related book discussions, presentations on diary-keeping, and other appropriate programming. Please contact the libraries for more information.
Anne Frank: A History for Today was developed by the Anne Frank House and is sponsored in North America by the Anne Frank Center USA.
Sponsored by: Riverboat Development Authority, Scott County Regional Authority, Doris and Victor Day Foundation, Rauch Family Foundation II, Inc., Stanley and Bernice Harris Memorial Endowment Fund, Rock Island Community Foundation
