School Outreach Program!
Museum teachers bring artifacts and enthusiasm to your classroom! Each program will engage your students as they learn from lively presentations of information and artifacts. In order to provide the best hands-on learning experience, these programs are scheduled for single classrooms.

Grade: Kindergarten
Take a trip around the world and experience the diversity of our musical heritage through song, dance, and playing ethnic musical instruments.
NEW! Coral Reefs and Beyond
Grades: 1-3, Available March 1, 2010
Dive into the fascinating underwater world of Earth's oceans and take a closer look at coral reef habitats. Students will explore the adaptations and special relationships of the exotic creatures that inhabit the reef through a multi-media presentation, supplemented with hands-on models, experiments, and live specimens.
Dinosaurs!
Grades: 1-2
Our Mesozoic tour guide combines the most up-to-date facts with some humorous paleontology discoveries.
Insects: What's The Buzz?
Grades: 1-3
Student entomologists will figure out what makes an insect an insect and their adaptations to their habitats. A LIVE insect steals the stage in this program.
Art: It's A Natural
Grade: 3
Discover four elements of art in images of our region's natural scenery through this multi-media presentation.
Progress On The Prairie
Grade: 3-5
Farming is NOT boring! Learn the story of corn from its tiny beginnings to today's 1,000 kernel ears. Handle amazing primitive tools.
Riding the Rails
Grades: 4-8
A costumed presenter reveals local railroad connections to the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, and the Orphan Train. Receive a FREE 2-week rental of our Traveling Trunk of Regional History by booking this program.
River Through Time
Grades: 4 & Up
Fossil evidence of plants and animals that inhabited this area hundreds of millions of years ago will inspire students to explore the unique geologic history of the Mississippi River in our region.
Pyramids Along The Mississippi
Grades: 4 & Up
Is the Mississippi River the Nile of the West? Travel through time from hunter-gatherers to the Mound Builders discovering our region's prehistoric secrets.
Our Region And The Civil War
Grades: 5 & Up
140-year-old artifacts, bring the Civil War to life for your class. You will be thinking like a southerner, feeling like a soldier, and yearning to know more by the time our costumed presenter leaves your classroom! |
Outreach Program Fees:
Half day: $100
(up to 3 programs in 3 hours)
Full day: $150
(4-5 programs, or more than 3 hours)
Plus travel fee: $.70 per mile (minimum travel fee is $5)
